Planning

Westminster Council database.

As a Statutory Consulting Body, we are consulted on all planning applications submitted in our designated area, and also on applications of significance in neighbouring areas which visually impact the Conservation Area and could affect local residents and businesses.

Our designated planning area is bounded by the Edgware Road, the Marylebone Road, Boundary Road to the North, and includes Regent’s Park (see map). We generally look at 15-25 applications each month.

We meet on the second Monday of every month to discuss planning applications and other activities and issues, such as residents’ parking, activities in Regent’s Park, council policy developments and public transport issues. We also deal with licensing matters as they affect local residents: cafes, bars and food outlets often result in noise, smoke and odour nuisance.

We have a good working relationship with Westminster planning officers, who are generally supportive of the concerns we raise and we often have a positive effect on the outcome of a particular proposal. We support local residents and businesses when their anxieties and complaints concern reasonable planning matters and any member may attend a meeting with prior notice.

We are keen for new people to join the planning committee. Many of our members have special expertise in various areas which gives us more insight into particular problems; we currently have several architects, an artist, a lawyer, a building manager and an engineer on the panel.

If you have some experience that you think might be useful, if you are passionate about Marylebone and are interested in joining our monthly meeting, please contact us.
